Paul Nolan
Paul Nolan is a climate scientist at the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC), where he has worked since 2013. His research focuses on modelling climate change at global, regional and national scales, supported by funding from the EPA, Met Éireann, the Marine Institute, and SFI.
Paul led Ireland’s contribution to the CMIP6 global climate model experiments through his work with the EC-Earth Earth System Model consortium, with results informing the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report.
A core part of his work involves producing high-resolution climate projections for Ireland and Europe, which have directly informed national climate policy, including the EPA’s Five-Yearly Assessment Report. He leads the Met Éireann TRANSLATE project, developing standardised future climate datasets and climate services for Ireland.
With advanced training in meteorology, mathematics and high-performance computing, and over 13 years of university teaching experience, Paul is widely recognised for translating complex climate model data into practical evidence for research and decision-making.
